The Repercussions Of Iran Sanctions On People Of Iranian Descent In The US
The US government claims that the reason behind the Iran sanctions was security concerns because Iran supports terrorism. This seems to have gone overboard because the sanction has been targeted on their energy sector. This has crippled their energy sector because Iran cannot import gasoline which is very vital to their economy. Countries have been threatened to get penalized by the US treasury department if they dare transport goods especially gasoline and weaponry to Iran. This has significantly affected the economy of Iran because they depend so much on these imports and exports.
These penalties have been a big blow to the financial sector but even more, the sanction on their transportation of goods is worse. Iran has no access to shipping because of the measures put to prevent this. Because Iran is very dependent on the importation of gasoline, the US government has targeted specifically this. All the countries that try to ship gasoline to Iran have been given penalties.
Even more, Iranian-Americans who want to send money to their elderly parents back home cannot do this. This is because no one is allowed to send or receive money to or from Iran. Because they cannot send money via the banks, they would have to transport this money in suitcases across the border. Cancer patients in Iran don't get access to effective medicine because it does not get there. Study more about Iranian descent here: https://www.facebook.com/MarkDubowitzFDD/.
If a family member passes on and you inherit property, you cannot sell it and benefit from it if you are living in the US. This means that there are no investments allowed even if you have a family business in Iran. It would have been better if you could hire a lawyer to take care of your business in Iran but this is also prohibited.
The sanction was meant to only affect the governments but it seems like it has affected even individuals. Iranian-Americans who are supposed to be protected by the US government are treated differently and discriminated against in US soil. There have been instances where Iranian-Americans were not able to buy or sell because they are of Iranian descent.
Even though there is a provision for Iranian-Americans to get a license to do certain activities in Iran, not so many people get this. These regulations have not been understood as they should and this is why people find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
